Woodlands performed first on Thursday 15th March, the opening night of the 2018 Nidderdale and District One-Act Drama Festival, with our offering of ‘May We…? Oui, Mais…’ The audience found this absurdist play by Wilf Hashimi gripping and the adjudicator, Cherry Stephenson, was effusive with her praise for the piece.
The icing on the cake was that, unbeknown to the director, cast and crew, the playwright and his wife had driven up from Wantage to watch us at the Frazer Theatre. Wilf thought we’d done a brilliant job and congratulated Howard and Alison for their wonderful performances.
At the Saturday night Awards Ceremony (‘the Knaresborough Oscars’) we had nominations in best actress, actor and director categories and came away with three cups. For the second year running Alison was awarded the Alan Lyons Cup for Best Actress. On behalf of Julie, she also stepped up to the stage to receive the Michael Wade Memorial Trophy for Artistic Originality and the festival runner-up trophy, the Garth Rawson cup.
Well done to the whole team – Julie James – Director, Howard Atkin – ‘Walter’, Alison Gilmore – ‘Dolly’, Anne-Marie Ledson – Lights & Sound, Ben Pollard – ‘Voice’ & Prompt and Sue Scott – crew.
