Why I Enjoy Drama

So many reasons really…its a great way to make friends and Woodlands is a really friendly and supportive group, you soon find yourself fitting in. It also boosts your self-confidence. It’s amazing how many people who do drama are shy in ‘real life’. There’s also a great team spirit around a production week, which is my favourite part of the whole process.  So involved have I become that I am now Treasurer of the group and the person who updates this lovely website.

My Drama Experience

I have played small parts (Mr Purdue in “Habeas Corpus” and Daisy’s dad in “Daisy Pulls It Off”), medium sized parts (Wilhelm Foldahl in Ibsen’s “John Gabriel Borkman” – see picture and Patrick in Polly Teale’s “Bronte”) and some huge parts, including the male lead in “Equus” by Peter Schaffer (the therapist, not the naked boy!). The role my Woodlands colleagues seem to remember most though is when I played a serial killer called John Smith in a modern thriller, “Kiss of Death” by Simon Williams (yes, THAT Simon Williams), a part which apparently “…fitted me like a glove.” Cheers.

I have also on 3 occasions done lighting & sound for different productions and stage managed once.

Away from Woodlands

I have a son and a daughter (aged 17 and 16 respectively at time of writing) and I am about to have a huge change of occupation, moving as I am from a career in IT Data Processing to becoming a self-employed counsellor and hypnotherapist, the idea for which occurred to me after appearing in “Equus”. So be careful what you audition for!
